description The Horsethief group site is ideal for visitors wishing to be close to The Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park. The area offers outdoor enthusiasts many options for hiking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, and four-wheel drive tours. The town of Moab is 25 minutes away and has dining, shopping, sports rentals, tour companies and museums.
drivingDirection From Moab, drive 9 miles north on Highway 191, turn west on Highway 313. Drive 12 miles and then turn right and drive in the short entrance road to the campground.
facilitiesDescription The group area has a fire grate, picnic tables and nearby vault toilet. This is a relatively small group site with limited parking and larger vehicles will not fit. The group site does not have water, a dump station or electric hook ups. There is no shade shelter at the Horsethief group site.

importantInformation Gusty winds are possible so always secure your tents and camping gear. Ravens, chipmunks and other wildlife frequent the sites; never leave food out. Summer thunderstorms can cause flash flooding and gusty winds; stay aware of current weather. Annual, Senior and Access passes do not apply to group site fees. There are no showers, electricity, dump stations or drinking water at these sites but they are available in the town of Moab. nearbyAttrctionDescription Arches and Canyonlands National Parks as well as Dead Horse Point State Park are very close to this group site. Groups heading into Canyonlands to ride the White Rim trail often use this site for camping before and after their trip. Horsethief is also near Gemini Bridges and Mineral Bottom.

orientationDescription Tucked in the pinyon juniper forest on the mesa above Moab, the Horsethief group site provides access to canyons, vistas and numerous four-wheel drive roads. The nearby Gemini Bridges trail and road make for great exploration. The higher elevation allows for cooler temperatures in the summer.
